Lumière Gig Guide—September 2008
BRANNAVAN GNANALINGAM trawls the local music calendar to bring us the month’s best gigs. This September: Peaches w/ Hawney Troof, Dizzee Rascal, Lucky Dragons.
» Peaches w/ Hawney Troof, Wed Sept 24 @ The Powerstation (Akld); Thur Sept 25 @ San Francisco Bathhouse (Wgtn)
Good luck trying to get a ticket for these shows.
» Dizzee Rascal, Thur Sept 25 @ The Powerstation (Akld)
Brit-grime-superstar Dizzee Rascal is playing in Auckland, continuing his recent visits down to the Antipodes. Limited tickets mean that this one will sell in a flash no doubt.
» Lucky Dragons, Thur Sept 25 @ High Street Project (Chch); Fri Sept 26 @ San Francisco Bathhouse (Wgtn); Sat Sept 27 @ Cross Street Studios Party (Akld); Sun Sept 28 @ Backstage (Dunedin)
Subverting the notion of performer/audience, art/music, and a whole bunch of other commonly accepted artistic notions, Lucky Dragons puts on a live show like no other. The LA-based musician experiments with electronic and indie sounds, but also incorporates his audience into creating the music, while also making them dance. Tickets are cheap as chips too ($15) for what could be a fascinating, fun gig.
Upcoming Gigs: Willard Grant Conspiracy, Yeasayer, The Mighty Underdogs & Blackalicious, The New Pornographers (tickets selling really fast for that one), Howe Gelb, Rhythm & Vines (Franz Ferdinand, The Kooks, Carl Cox). Keep an eye out for Big Day Out rumours too.
