Post-fest Wrap 2004 [Part B]
Still suffering from withdrawal symptoms, low Vitaman D and buttock gangrene, a portion of the Lumière team decided to revisit their unhealthy addiction one more time with a compilation of post-festival lists – before promptly getting a life.

This stunning, hypnotic Hungarian wonder – following 24 hours in the life of a drug dealer – doesn't sound incredibly appealing on paper, but I found myself completely immersed in its creepy, detached, deadening, bizarre, frightfully intense brand of slooooooooow and ponderous – on a Village screen of all places!
» Open Water
Stripped-down, surprisingly haunting shark thriller delivers, despite my personal reservations of digital video...
» Story of a Weeping Camel
Who knew? A story of a weeping camel? Watching Mongolian shepherds trying to reconcile a white calf with her distant mother in this lovely, totally unique and moving little movie is one of the most calming, blissed-out film-going experiences I've had in a while.
» Hero
The most visually rapturous thing I've seen all year. Chris Doyle's magnificent cinematography, Zhang Ziyi and Maggie Cheung sparring, yellow leaves windmilling and whirling around them = recipe for speechlessness and swollen eyes.
» Primer
No-budget sci-fi mindbender is an absolutely infuriating exercise in WTF? cinematic bafflement, pushing my brain cells to reach for places I didn't know even existed, but I couldn't stop thinking about the damn thing days after.
AND special props to films seen prior to fest but big-screened with mind-blowing results: Old Boy, 36th Chamber of Shaolin, and Ong Bak, which takes the prize for the most insanely fun, electrifying movie of the fest.
