Media Release | August 30th, 2004
Lumière Industries is delighted to announce an exciting new addition to its website, The Lumière Reader. Located at www.lumiere.net.nz/reader, the website goes live on Monday, August 30th.

The Lumière Reader seeks to offer a unique New Zealand perspective on cinema. It is this country's definitive online hub dedicated to intelligent criticism and review of independent and mainstream cinema.

"The Lumière Reader is the next logical phase for Lumière Industries. As much as I love the tangible, aesthetic qualities of print, publishing online will allow us to connect with a broader audience," says founding editor and creative director Tim Wong.

"New Zealand is a nation of film-lovers, so it only makes sense that this country should have a creative quarter devoted to film debate and review. The Lumière Reader exists to fill that vital niche."

While maintaining its core philosophy of addressing indie cinema, The Lumière Reader will begin to embrace mainstream cinema coverage in its new online format.

In addition to a new streamlined look, the website offers important key features:

» cutting-edge editorial content
» archive of all past content, issues 1-4
» reviews of newly released DVDs
» interactive film discussion forum
» comprehensive local and overseas events' calendar
» extensive index of internet resources
» regular giveaway prizes

"We are excited by the possibilities an online hub will open up. At the heart of Lumière has always been innovation and exploring dynamic platforms to bridge ideas and people – it's all about accessibility and connectivity," adds Marketing Communications Advisor Alistair Kwun.

Lumière Industries will discontinue the print version of its half-issues. Full-sized issues will still be published, but on an irregular basis. The editors welcome contributions and constructive feedback.
