From the wires: Calling all potential Spielbergs and Jacksons. Looking for something to do this summer? Then Moonlight Shorts, a frickin’ fun new film competition from the creators of 48HOURS, is looking for you. The premise is so ingeniously simple – it may just work.

Instead of baking under the cruel sun in Jan/Feb, why not spend some of those lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer zipping around making a killer short film. The only criteria to enter is a passion for filmmaking... and let's be honest, some equipment would probably help too. We welcome first-timers through to the very experienced from all over the country.

The short can be whatever takes your fancy, a strong drama, an offbeat documentary, an animated piece or whatever your noggin' dreams of. Every short, however, must include the ‘Moonlight Shorts Thingamajig’ (see website for more info) so we know you made it especially for us and not for your grandmother. Shorts must be submitted before February 10, so our panel of expert judges can narrow the entries down to just 12 shorts to screen in the Grand Final.

And what a Grand Final it will be. Our Grand Final will be a magnificent free event, held in stunning Coyle Park, Pt Chevalier, Auckland under the moonlight on Saturday March 4.

At the conclusion of the screening, in front of a mammoth crowd, our esteemed judges will announce a series of prizes including the Grand Winner, whose short will be (among other things) transferred to 35mm film courtesy of Park Road Post (Lord of The Rings, King Kong), shown in cinemas and television (C4).

Whether you’re on holiday or stuck in a boring air conditioned office dreaming of the great outdoors – then what are you waiting for? Start planning your cinematic masterpiece by visiting the official website to find out more information.
